Blocked Port 25
SMTP Server Connection Problems
Port 25 is the channel used for communication between an email client and the email server. By blocking this port, ISPs (Internet Service Providers) are able to block spam from being sent through their networks. Unfortunately this also blocks legitimate emails from actual users (You’ll notice you are able to receive messages just fine, but sending email returns an SMTP connection error). We recommend making these changes now instead of waiting until you have a problem, since it appears many other ISPs will follow this same course.
The Solution
To correct your connection problem the SMTP Port needs to be changed to an alternative provided by your email account provider. Most times this alternative will be port 587, however if you are a Webtivity Designs client your SMTP port should be configured to 8889. This setting can be found in Microsoft Outlook’s advanced email settings area. Please see the videos below for specific directions to configure your Outlook program. Also note that anyone using web-based email should not be affected by the port 25 blocks.
